Monthly Update – 2 years, 3 mos

How about some recent updates about Adelyn, hmm?

Adelyn sleeps in her big girl room (which I still haven’t shown you pictures of yet! Must do that soon…).  Goes down around 8pm, wakes up around 8am and still rocks her afternoon naps (at least 1.5 hrs).  She doesn’t come out of her room though… I always have to go get her. It’s kind of nice, really, but at the same time I have no idea when she really wakes up. Sometimes she’s awake when I get her, other times she’s still sleeping.  It’s always a surprise!  Unless I can hear her talking in there, then it’s pretty obvious…

She has really started expanding her vocabulary. I think that since Colton has been born, she has matured a lot in a very short time. She’s such a BIG little girl now.  :) Here are some of my favorite sayings:

  • I dude it – I do it
  • baboooo – bless you
  • nounous – noodles
  • ya yous – Love you
  • peepas – pizza
  • wawools – waffles
  • tars – stars
  • down-up – pumpjack
  • memeek – Mickey (Mouse)

Here are some of the names she has for people:

  • yiyis – Lindsay
  • kim – Kim
  • kaya/kiya/kayla – Mikaela
  • nouyous – Nova
  • mimi – Millie
  • brama – Grandma

And my personal favorite?

  • toltec – Colton

Addy’s Favorites:

    • We recently turned her car seat around so she now faces forward and she l.o.v.e.s it! She takes full advantage of her improved view, commenting on everything she sees. Oh look! Traffic lights, “Red, pots {stop}, green, go” {although “Green, go” sounds more like “gringo”…}! Trucks! Down-ups! ChooChootrain!!!!

    • Speaking of which, she loves choochootrains.  She loves choochootracks. Train crossings? Yep. ChooChooPomas (aka Thomas the Train)? You betcha.  She does think they are a bit too loud, but that doesn’t deter her… she likes to watch them in downtown Gladewater, clinging to your neck as they go by.

    • Play-Doh and paint.  She goes bonkers over paint!  Watercolor, acrylic, glow-in-the-dark… you name it, she loves it.  Maybe she’ll be an artist?

{Painting Millie’s portrait, perhaps?}

    • Swimming.  She calls swimming pools “cools”.  Makes sense to me!

    • Going for walks, and bringing different toys with her when we go.

{Clifford and a baby doll}

{Mickey Mouse}

{Her umbrella, which serves two purposes…}

{To provide shade…}

{Or act as a walking stick.}

    • She also enjoys wearing her new shoes in the house.

    • Mickey Mouse Club House. How do I explain the love she has for Mickey? She stands in front of the TV like this for the entire (20 min) episode, just to make sure she’s right up in the action. She dances and sings along to the songs. It is pure toddler love.

    • Bubble baths!

{Look how long her hair is!!}

Fears:

  • Thunder. She turns into a clam, grabbing onto Momma or Daddy and burying her head in our shoulder. We think this fear stemmed from her being outside with Daddy when a storm was brewing and lightning struck nearby.  Derek said it was deafening, so I suppose that makes sense…
  • Her remote control car. Say wha’?! Brama and Grandpa gave her a cute little remote control car for Christmas and she hates the thing. Even mentioning her remote control car makes her frantic. Something about the noise it makes, maybe? Weirdest fear ever.

Would you care for an anecdote that illustrates how grown up Addy is?

The other day, the house was unusually quiet so I went to look for Addy. I found her in her room, laying on her bed, changing her own diaper. That’s right folks, you read that correctly. Apparently she had a peepee diaper and she didn’t want to wait for Momma to change it, so she took the initiative and removed it herself, got her wipes, wiped, and then laid down on her new diaper.

THEN, after I helped her put her new diaper on, she headed into Colton’s room and grabbed his boppy and a bib. She took them into the kitchen, climbed up onto a kitchen chair and then proceeded to “nurse” her baby doll, just like Momma nurses Colton.

What did I tell ya? Grown up, right?

The last two bits of “babyhood” that are hanging on right now are her pacis and her diapers. She only gets her pacis at naptime and bedtime, but we’ve decided that that’s two times too many. So, we are drawing the line. We are going to prick the tips of her pacis with a pin so that they are “broken”, and then we’ll see how things go. Also, as of yesterday we’re officially trying to potty train, but she just does NOT want to make it easy. You may recall she was super psyched when we first got her potty, but then we slacked off (hmm, having a baby may have something to do with that…) and she just hasn’t gotten back into it. I mean, the whole changing-her-own-diaper thing makes us think that she is definitely ready to be potty trained. We ask her “Where do you put your poopy and peepee?” and she yells “Potty!”, but when we say “Okay, let’s go put our peepee in the potty”, it’s a real battle. Moreso when it comes to #2. Yesterday, she wore her big girl panties all day and went peepee in the potty every single time, but poopy? Flat out refused. Even though she had to go (I know the signs…), no amount of bribery could sway her. We spent about 2 hrs yesterday evening going back and forth to the bathroom just trying to get her to go, but still no poopy by bedtime. Hopefully today, after some serious cajoling and and praising and bribing, she’ll give in and “go with the flow”… in the potty.

Adelyn is 2 years, 3 months old and Colton is 2 months old, 1 week old.

Adelyn’s 2nd birthday

Hey, didya hear?

Our daughter turned TWO!!!! I can hardly believe it. But then I realize, “well, we are about to have a second child” and maybe I can believe it. She is turning into such a big girl.

So, let me tell you about her birthday party! Her theme? This didn’t take too much thought. Addy loves the movie Finding Nemo. Loooooves it. And because Addy was born at the end of May when temperatures are a million degrees, we have to have water present at her party, right? So an Under The Sea theme was perfect. I did some research, started planning early, and with {a ton} of help from my family, I’d say the party went off without a hitch!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To begin, I want to show y’all some of the decor:
I made this life preserver to welcome our guests when they first arrived at our house. Super easy to make! I used a styrofoam ring (Hobby Lobby), took my trusty hot glue gun and glued red and white felt around the ring. I found some white cord and twisted it to act as the accent rope, and then used black puff paint to write out our name. Voila! Life preserver for an underwater party!
Part of the indoor decor, inspired by this cute birthday party. Again, easy to do – blue tulle (Hobby Lobby), a couple different shades of blue balloons (local dollar store), blue table cloth (dollar store), colorful fish (Oriental Trading Co.), inflatable octopus (Hobby Lobby) and a few handmade starfish (thanks Mikaela!)
Part of the outside seating area. More blue tulle (Hobby Lobby), fishing nets (Oriental Trading Co.), wooden turtle bowl (already owned), large clam shells (already owned) and small shells collected from the beach during our trip to Florida!
Goodie bags! I decorated the little blue totes bags (Target, 3/$1) using felt and iron-on adhesive. I designed with the little underwater critters myself, and had fun doing it! My favorite is the whale :) Filled with Goldfish, underwater shaped fruit snacks, fishy bubbles, and fishy squirt toy.
We also had a bubble machine at the party (best $8 I’ve spent in a long time!), two inflatable pools and a sprinkler ring. Oh yes, and a gigantic whale that my Dad inflated with his very own lungs. Seriously. It was gigantic. Right Dad?
And although this may not interest anyone, I’d like to remember it: Menu included grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and salsa, tortellini pasta salad, fruit salad, and of course, CAKE!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And now, the rest of the pics from the day: preparation thru party!

My family arrived several hours before the party to help me finish up with the decorating and food prep (you know, since I was 36 weeks pregnant and all…). Thank goodness for their help! Poor Derek was already running around doing last minute things, so it was great to have the 8 extra hands to help out.

Mikaela was in charge of the fruit salad.

Mom was busy working on decorating Addy’s underwater cake.

Poor Dad was tasked with blowing up the ginormous whale. (You will be happy to know, Dad, that the whale is still inflated!)

Kim was at my beck and call in terms of decorating (so was Mikaela after she was through with the fruit salad). “I think that fish needs to go over there. A little higher. More balloons. Hmm, maybe try putting another tack over there?” Way to go, sisters.

Ta-ya!

Even the birthday girl got in on the preparation action, helping to fill up the pools.

She’s so excited!!

Fill ‘er up, Daddy.

Addy also had to make sure the lemonade was sweetened and stirred just right.

Auntie Kim giving P-squared a little lovin’.

Let’s get this party started! Addy had a good time splashing in the pools, even though some of the recipients of said splashing may not have enjoyed it as much (sorry Kenna!).

Addy and a beached whale. See?? GIGANTIC!!!!

Our neighbor, Hannah Clare, just enjoying her ring!

Addy’s 2nd cousin, Kenna, playing with the inflatable underwater creatures. I think those were a hit!

Benjy and Addy chasing the bubbles.

Wheeee, whales are fun!

Daddy, the chef. :)

Running through the sprinkler ring with lil’ Matt.

Basically the entire party! A fun group of people :)

Gracie, Addy and lil’ Matt in the “big kid” pool.

My mom, Grandma Lo, with Great-Grandmother and Great-Granddad Dollins.

Thinking about what a fun time she’s having.

Checking out the fishies with Daddy.

Is it time for cake yet?!?!?!

Check out the awesome cake my Mom made! A graham cracker and kitkat pier, swedish fish, gummy sharks, gummy lifesavers, raisinets, …she even used fondant to make Nemo, the jelly fish, starfish, turtle and seagulls! It was awesome :)

Blowing out the candles!

The cake was definitely approved.

The one “mishap” at the party? We forgot to hand out the goodie bags. ::facepalm:: After all that work too. Luckily everyone lived nearby (except little Kenna June, who came all the way from Dallas!) so we were able to hand them out over the next few days. Don’t worry, KJ, we’ve still got your goodie bag!

All in all, I’d say it was a great party and I think everyone had a fun time! Adelyn was given all sorts of neat and wonderful gifts, so she has lots to keep her busy and entertained when P-squared gets here. Thanks everyone for coming and sharing Addy’s special day with us!

I have more pics from the rest of the weekend, but that will be in a separate post. Right now, Momma needs a nap. ;)

Adelyn is 2 years, 3 weeks old and I am 38 weeks, 5 days pregnant.

Florida! Pt. 3

The final installment (it’s about time!)

{Florida! Pt 1. and Florida! Pt 2.}

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Day 6
Exciting morning! We watched the very last launch of the space shuttle Endeavour… from Pops and Gram Z’s house! While we couldn’t actually see the shuttle take off (we watched that part on the TV), we looked out about 15 seconds after take-off and could see the shuttle rocketing upwards. SO neat! And something to check off my bucket list. The rest of the day was spent enjoying the pool, of course.
Ready to witness the final launch of Endeavour!
Dan was able to zoom in with his awesome camera and snap this shot. How neat is this?!
Watching the Endeavour go after we lost sight of it.
The aftermath. Amazing!
And now, back to the water! Testing the temperature…
Working the controls.
She turned the bubbles on all by herself. Yayyyyy!
Talk about jumping in with your eyes closed!
Working on her foot work with Daddy.
Nice shot of Derek and Gram Z. Too bad Addy wasn’t paying attention. Again, too busy with the hot tub controls.
Addy and Gram Z playing!
Taking a moment to unwind by reading nursery rhymes with Daddy.
Looking at pictures on Gram Z’s camera.
Day 7
Going home. Luckily our flight was an evening flight, so Pops, Addy and Momma were able to spend one last chunk of time in the pool while Daddy and Gram Z played a round of golf :)
Addy liked to march around the ledge of the hot tub.
Addy and Pops!
Ready, get set…
Jump!
Saying goodbye to Bobby the bookworm. We had a great trip!!
Thanks, Pops and Gram Z, for having us over! It won’t be too long before we’re back again (plans for Thanksgiving in FL), but Addy may be disappointed to find out that the pool might not be warm enough for her daily swim. That’s what the hot tub is for, right?! :)
Adelyn is 2 years, 2 weeks old and I am 37 weeks, 4 days pregnant… but I was only 34 weeks on this trip…
Florida! Pt. 2
In case you missed it, here’s the link to Florida! Pt 1.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As a quick recap, Days 1 and 2 were mostly spent lounging by the pool, enjoying the outdoors and being chased by Gram Z in the evenings. Good fun!

Day 3
Time for a boat ride on the Zivney’s new boat, Play Hard! This day also happened to be Friday the 13th, and as luck would have it… it was an unlucky day. Addy was not happy to be out on the boat, mostly because she missed her morning swim (that’s sure to make anyone cranky). So she was ultra grouchy and spent almost the entire trip whining, crying and throwing fits, making it hard for any of us to really enjoy the time out there. Then a fresh water hose sprung a leak and dumped a ton of fresh water into the engine room. And then the fuel injector pump on one of the engines broke… tough trip. But at least we got to get out on the water! And we even spotted some dolphins!

Arriving at the Marina.

Addy wanted to check out some of the other boats nearby too.

I would call this one unhappy child.

Trying to make the most of it.

Derek was happy as a clam ! Can you tell that he wants a boat?

Game face on.

Derek and Pops, getting things ready before we head out!

Gram Z and Addy

Studying the water, looking a lil cranky… (not you, Gram Z ;) )

Captain Pops and Co-captain Daddy

Comforting his cranky daughter.

Look, dolphins! We think they were…mating.

Is that… could that be a… a small smile? Of course, this was once we had docked and were getting ready to leave. Oh well, next time will be better!

Day 4
We decided to make a spur of the moment trip to Bathtub Beach, a strip of beach that is sheltered by a live reef. The day we went was pretty windy so there were decent sized waves further off shore, but within the reef area, it was quite nice. This was Adelyn’s first trip to the beach (EVER) and she had a pretty good time!

Checking out the surf and the people in it.

Heading down to the water.

Wave to Daddy!

Momma, Addy and Pops, getting comfortable with the waves.

She liked the feel of the sand.

Daddy and Addy playing.

Lunch time! I see you in there.

Just was we were leaving the beach, clouds started to roll in and we ended up getting a nice rain storm that afternoon (a much needed rainstorm. They are in a drought over there!). After a nice nap, Addy did some major coloring. Well actually, she did major coloring every day. Doesn’t she look like a little school girl??

She works so hard.

Day 5
More swimming in the pool, with the added bonus of an early birthday party for Addy and Momma! Oh, and a very exciting moment… Adelyn caught her first fish! Believe it.

Trying on her new shoes.

She is such a model. We asked her to show us her shoes and she totally worked the runway. We didn’t even tell her to put her hands on her hips, she just started to strut her stuff! :)

Taking Pops for a walk with her new shoes.

Lovely, Adelyn!

Admiring the cake Gram Z and Pops got her.

“One, two, we, go!”

Blow that candle out, girl!

Yayyy!!!!

Feeding herself cake. She’s a big girl now.

Doing some early evening fishing with Daddy.

Helping Daddy with the reel. He would cast out, she would reel the bait in.

Except one time, she actually caught a FISH! Her first one ever! Look at that sucker!!

Hoping to catch another fish.

I’d call this some quality Daddy-Daughter time.

{Days 6 and 7 coming soon!}

Adelyn is 2 years, 1 week old and I am 37 weeks pregnant… but I was only 34 weeks on this trip…

Addy’s scooter.

Technically, the scooter belongs to our 8 year old neighbor Gracie. But she’s too big for it and has sweetly let Addy borrow it. Indefinitely.

It all started one warm day in April. April 2nd, to be exact. We had just returned home from our trip to Canton and despite having been outside all day, Adelyn didn’t want to come in. Our neighbors were out playing, so she went over to visit. And then she commandeered this:

Oh ya.

(Sorry for the shirtless-look. It was hot and she had just eaten a popsicle… no better way to prevent stains than to remove the shirt, right??)

Day 1: Getting used to the scooter

It took no time (the next day, in fact) for her to get used to the push-and-glide rhythm it takes to ride a scooter.

Day 2: Got the rhythm of pushing and gliding down pat!

Now she rides the scooter rain…

Or shine!

She’s even taught herself a few parlor tricks, including gliding with her leg extended out…

And managing a popsicle at the same time.

Oh, and she’s fast!

How did she learn to ride the scooter? From watching Gracie and practicing by herself. I can’t get over how fast she picked it up. Like I told my friend, toddlers are the epitome of “monkey see, monkey do”!

Adelyn is 22 months, 3 weeks old and I am 30 weeks pregnant.

So, when does she start driving?

I took a week-long hiatus from blogging, and look how far behind I am! I need to give yall updates about some very important matters, including:

A. Big girl beds
B. Belly updates
C. Potting training. Oh ya. It’s happening. So if you’re squeamish about ::ahem:: #1 and #2, you may want to stop reading before I address “C”.

Here we go!

A. Addy is loving her big girl bed. She’s been sleeping through the night consistently, waking up between 6:45am – 7:45am (a bit earlier than in her crib, usually 7:30-8:30) and taking her usual 1.5-3 hrs naps. We close her door at night but it doesn’t latch all the way shut, so when she gets up in the mornings, she can pull her door open and come find me. I love hearing her bedroom door open and seeing her little curly bedhead come walking through our doorway. She likes to have us come back to her bed and lay down and snuggle for a few mins in the mornings, or sometimes she’ll climb into bed with us. And she loves to have us read to her. Those first few days when she moved into her big girl bed, we spent a lot of time reading in there. She is just a big fan of her bed!

B. P-squared and the belly. I realize that I forgot to do a “29 weeks” post, but since I’ll be 30 weeks tomorrow (GAH! WHAT?! That means I only have 10 weeks to go??????? YOU MEAN I’M IN MY THIRD TRIMESTER?!!!!!!!!), I’ll just smush the two together and do a bigger recap with a 30 week picture. P-squared has been so active lately that it is seriously painful. Two days ago I swear P-squared was doing flips and got stuck in one position with arms and/or knees protruding at odd angles. 30 week belly pic to come this weekend!

C. We bought Addy a potty on Tuesday.

Warning: TMI forthcoming! Stop here if you are squeamish about… you know…

We opened the potty on Wendesday to see if she would be interested in it. She was. She opened all the compartments, sat on it, played with the toilet paper holder (ya, it has one. Pretty snazzy, eh?) We tried to get her to use it, and she did try!, but she had no success. She would just shake her head and say “Uh oh, no”. That’s okay, we thought, we’re in no hurry.

{Pretending to use her new potty! First thing she did after we took the potty out of the box was sit down on it.}

Enter Thursday. She wakes up from her nap. We do our usual snacktime routine then get ready to go outside. Addy sees her potty and decides that she wants to try using it! So we remove her shorts and diaper and she sits there, jumps up, sits there, jumps up. I ask her if she wants me to leave and she said “yes”. So I leave the bathroom and she closes the door behind me. I kill some time… you know, pace the hallway, tap my feet, etc. I go back in about a minute later and she’s standing over the potty, smiling and pointing down, saying “Peepee!” So I go look and sure enough, there it is! She went peepee in the potty all by herself!!

::Faints::

All in all, between naptime and bedtime, she went peepee a total of 5 times. She even pulled Derek in from outside because she had to go. And then after dinner, she went #2. I’m not kidding. She went a bit in her diaper but really wanted to be on the potty, so I sat her down and sure enough, she did her business.

Hold me closer, Tony Danza. Our girl is getting so big. Now, I’m under no illusions that this is it. I know potty training is going to be a process. I just can’t believe that Addy has started said process already. And like I mentioned before, we are in no rush to potty train her.

It will happen when it happens, and quite frankly, it’s happening now. So. I guess this means I’m going to the store tomorrow to buy training pants and big girl underwear!

For Addy, not for me.

Adelyn is 22 months, 3 weeks old and I am 29 weeks, 6 days pregnant.

So how did Adelyn do?

I’d say she rocked her big girl bed!

Starting from bedtime last night…

Addy was super excited about her big girl bed. During the whole nighttime routine, she kept pointing and saying “Bee Beh” (big bed). When the lights were finally off and the door was closed however, she seemed a bit nervous. So Momma read to her and rocked her in the rocking chair as usual. We snuggled for a bit and then I lay her down on her bed. She wasn’t quite ready for me to leave yet, so I lay down next to her and rubbed her back for a bit. When I tried to leave, she started to sit up but I told her it was bed time. Then I asked if she wanted one more book and she nodded, so we read through it. Then she said “One mo’” in a wobbly voice that made me squeeze her tight because I knew she was feeling a bit scared, so we read it again. After we finished, we cuddled a bit longer and then I put her down one more time. I asked if she wanted me to lay down with her again and she nodded so I put my head down on the bed. She grabbed her pacis and Mr. Bear and hid her face for a while. I finally said goodnight and managed to get out the door. That was at 8:45pm.

We didn’t hear from her again until 2:45am!

I think she just woke up and didn’t realize where she was, because she started to cry quietly and she just sounded so sad. It broke my heart. So I went in there and rocked with her for a while and then put her back on the bed, where she grabbed Mr. Bear and her handful of pacis again. I was able to say goodnight and sneak back out after a few extra kisses and back rubs. Time in room: ~10 mins.

She woke back up at 3:45am and then again when Derek left for work at 6:30am, but each time we did the same thing…. rocked for a bit, and then back to the bed we went. And I got to go back to our bed after about 10 minutes. What time did she officially wake up this morning? 9:15am!! She managed to sleep through the majority of a thunderstorm (I have no idea how), but one particularly loud crack of lightning jolted her awake. She’s been running in and out of her room ever since, wanting to be on her big girl bed.

So as I said, overall, she rocked the big girl bed. I mean, it would have been even more amazing if she hadn’t woken up at all, but we anticipated a few late night calls. Plus, neither Derek nor I were sleeping very well last night… I guess I was keeping my ears open for her. We are so proud of our big girl!!!!!!

Now we’ll see how naptime goes…

Adelyn is 22 months, 1 week old and I am 28 weeks, 2 days pregnant.

Wish us luck.

Guess what we are doing tonight? (Be sure to check out that face in the last 10 seconds of the video.)

We think it’s time. And Adelyn seems okay with it! Check out that morning bedhead.

Let’s get started!

A “before” picture. Addy and her crib!

Taking apart her seahorses.

Daddy working so hard.

Addy helps, of course.

But she soon lost interest and decided to play DJ on my ipod instead.

And then she decided to do some calculations to make sure that we were on schedule.

Bringing in the big girl bed!

She likes it.

Shh, she’s “sleepin’”.

Ta-Da! Big girl bed is ready for the big girl to sleep in. Pillows between the walls and mattress, extra sheets rolled to form a lip under the fitted sheet… More pillows likely to come for the floor!

Fingers crossed that we all get a good nights sleep!!

Adelyn is 22 months, 1 week old and I am 28 weeks, 1 day pregnant.

Our sneaky girl

Setting:

  • Momma was in the kitchen cleaning up after dinner.
  • Daddy was outside, tending to the grill.
  • Adelyn was…hmmm, where was she?

It was quiet. Too quiet. So Momma went to look for our little troublemaker.

I found her in the living room. She had picked up one of her favorite books, A teeny tiny baby by Amy Schwartz, climbed into Daddy’s recliner and was busy reading.

To herself!

(At first I thought she had turned the TV on too, but then I remembered that the TV comes on when our DVR records a show, so the TV wasn’t her doing…)

Anyway. As I was saying, our 21 month old daughter was reading her book aloud, pointing out the pictures and doing the hand motions that we do when we read to her.

I melt!

I mean seriously, mop me up off the floor. When did our teeny tiny baby become such a big independent girl?? Oh ya, when she became a toddler.

This video is funny because of Millie’s reaction at the 0:25 sec mark. Cracks. Me. Up!!

Adelyn is 21 months, 1 week old and I am 23 weeks, 6 days pregnant.
