What’s up, Doc?

Addy went in for her 18 month well-child checkup last week. She is still a teeny tiny girl! My 18 month old weighs 19 lbs. Big time 1st percentile on that one. She’s getting longer though (31.5 inches long, putting her in the 41st percentile)! Doc says she looks great, she just needs to eat and eat and eat. Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done. You know that saying “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.”? Same goes for a toddler with food. Addy eats when she wants. End of story. And really, she does eat a decent amount. She’s just a petite little girl :)

She hates the doctor though. But I can understand… what child likes going someplace where all they do is poke and prod you and give you shots? Our pediatrician is wonderful and patient, thank goodness. She gave Addy a sticker, which calmed her down for about 3 seconds, but as soon as Addy saw the stethoscope coming her way, the crying and wiggling started again. It’s tough being a kid. I think Adelyn knew what was coming at the end of the visit – 3 more immunizations. She’s a big girl though and it was over super fast. So now, no more shots until she’s 4 years old! Woo hoo! Oh wait, we’ll be starting over with P-Squared…

Speaking of P-squared, I had an appointment on Monday and got to meet our OB for the first time (Derek and Addy stayed home this time around). I also got to hear P-squared’s heartbeat, so that was very exciting!! (152 bpm). Everything looked great and our next appointment isn’t for another 4 weeks… I’m sure lots of pregnancy-related things will be happening between now and then. We looked back at the journal I kept when we were expecting Addy, and by 17 weeks, I had already felt Addy kick! Not to mention I was wearing maternity pants thanks to a developing baby bump (which I think will “pop” sooner this time around… I swear, I’ve got a ton of bloat and feel ginormous by the end of the day right now. Plus, I’ve heard the belly pops sooner with subsequent children… true? We shall see.)

Anyway, those are the latest updates over here! I’m working on several Christmas posts that will be up over the next few days, so prepare yourselves for a slew of pics. Until then, here are a few of our little Christmas elf :)

Admiring herself in the hall mirror. She just loves her hat!

Adelyn is 18 months and 3 weeks old, and I am 12 weeks and 5 days pregnant.

She’s little, y’all.

And I mean little little.

We took Addy to the pediatrician today for her 12 month checkup and the doc officially confirmed what we already knew: Addy is petite. She weighs 16lbs 6 oz (1st percentile) and is 27.5 inches long (6th percentile). That means that 99% of girls her age weigh the same or more than she does… 94% are the same length or longer. So as we said, petite! miniscule! dainty! She must be a future brainiac though, because her head circumference put her in the 91st percentile, haha!

This was our first trip to our new pediatrician so it was an adventure. The lobby had free-standing aquariums in it, and Addy liked running around them and staring at the fishies. Back in the triage rooms, mirrors are mounted at the same height as the exam tables, and Addy was so excited to see another half naked baby on the table (diaper-only during the measurements) that she started showing off, standing up without using her hands, bouncing up and down. That is, until the med student came in and did the preliminary exam… the ear exam really ticked her off. And then she got 4 shots, so she was not a happy camper. But she’s a trooper and did pretty well the rest of the day. She just wanted to cuddle.

I mean look at this face…

This is a sly little smile.

Don’t you just want to snuggle with her? She’s so kissable!

Adelyn is 12 months and 2 weeks old.

Updates

I wrote a long post two days ago with all sorts of Adelyn updates in it, and for some reason it didn’t post. Grrrrr… I couldn’t bear typing it all out again right after that, so I’m just coming back to it now. I’ll try to remember everything I had written. Here goes!

As I mentioned, Adelyn was sick over Christmas with her first major cold, which was no fun for any of us. We took her to a clinic on new years day and discovered she had an ear infection. She was prescribed amoxicillan and that cleared it up, but she experienced some nasty side effects that made her almost as miserable as before, poor bug. She’s all better now, thank goodness.

Being sick definitely changed her eating habits. All she wanted to do was nurse (which is understandable), and she completely lost interest in solids. She’s slowly regaining that interest now, but she has a selective palate. Favorites: squash and sweet potato. Least Favorites: everything else. Ha! She hates pears, tolerates peaches, used to like prunes… she still eats rice cereal, particularly the apple flavor. I gave her orange slices a few days ago and she had fun sucking all the juice out of them. Hopefully this means she’s regaining an appetite for a variety of foods! Oh, and she drinks out of a cup. No sippy-cup for her, she’s a big girl!

No sign of crawling yet. Addy prefers to roll around in order to get where she wants to go. She is getting really good at standing though! She tries to pull up, but gives up before her heiney can get off the ground, funny girl. Gotta build those arm muscles!

We haven’t been very good about taking pictures lately, we’ve been so busy unpacking and getting settled. Here are just a few pics, all taken with our cell phones.
