That’s a lot of Zivney women…

Gram Z and Auntie Lindsay both came to visit us at the end of January, putting the Zivney male-to-female ratio in this house at 1:3 (2 to 6, cats included. Hehe.) We all had a blast!

Making silly faces on Auntie’s laptop.

See? Silly faces.

Gram Z brought green bubbles. For real. The only problem? They stained clothing/boots. For real.

{{See the green bubble just above Addy’s hand? They were pretty cool!}}

My little hoodlum.

Last time Auntie saw Colton? When he was 1 month old. Yowza!

When I said Colton was snuggly in his 8-month monthly update, I wasn’t exaggerating.

See? He loves to snuggle.

A special shout out to Auntie Lindsay, who will soon be a “Friedman” as well as a “Zivney”!! She and soon-to-be Uncle Matt got engaged on Friday, and Addy received a special phone call just to inform her of the exciting news. During Auntie’s visit here, Adelyn painted several drawings for Uncle Matt, and she already calls him her friend. :) Congrats to the happy couple!!

Monthly Update – 8 mos old

Colton is 8 months old!

{{Check and respect those eyes. And eyelashes. All thanks to Daddy!}}

Soooo, there are 4 months left until my baby is a 1 year old?! I need to start planning his first birthday party, stat. Pinterest, here I come!

Colton is a good boy, plain and simple. He’s a happy, sweet, and cuddly little man who enjoys snuggling as much as he enjoys “wrassling” with Daddy and sister. He’s the most easy-going baby I know. We are so lucky!

At 8 months old, Colton:

  • Usually takes just 2 naps a day, morning and afternoon. Sometimes I even manage to get the kids to sleep at the same time during the afternoon naps! Goes to bed around 7pm. Wakes +3 times a night. (Can’t wait until he pulls off a solid night of sleep. I think it’s been about a year since I’ve had a solid 8 hrs of uninterrupted shut-eye…) Super cute habit of his? Colton only gets his pacis at naptime or bedtime, and as soon as the paci is in his mouth, one (or both) of his hands go straight up to his head to feel his hair. Without fail, paci in, hands go up. Presh.
  • (Also sleep related) wakes up happy in his crib. He’s content to play and talk to himself in there. He likes to roll around the crib too. I often find him perpendicular to the length of the crib (I don’t know how he fits… he’s longer than the width of it).
  • Is content to sit and watch the world (or mostly watch his sister… because she sure is entertaining. He just loves sissy). He’s not crawling yet, but he doesn’t mind being on his tummy now and stretches reaaaallly far to reach toys.
  • Is an eating machine. So far Colton has tried carrots, peas, squash, sweet potato, avocado, pears, apples and bananas. Not a huge fan of the avocado or peas, but we’ll keep trying. Next up – meat!

  • Is a goofball. He likes to lean all the way back in his highchair, tipping his head over the back edge. We went out to lunch the other day and Colton leaned back, tipped his head back and stared at the table behind him, upside down, for about a solid minute and a half. The people at that table thought it was hilarious.
  • Loves the jenny jump up and doesn’t stop bouncing when he’s in it. He’s even started to bounce towards the door frame and hold on tight

  • Is getting to be pretty vocal. He squeals, shrieks or screams (sometimes happily, sometimes angrily… he tells us when he’s frustrated. If you take something away from him when he’s still playing with it, he can get angry.) Says “Ba ba ba”, “Ma ma ma” “Da da da”.
  • Enjoys “reading” (code for either patting or chewing on the book)

{{Side note: Addy’s bedhead is a force to be reckoned with.}}

  • Drives a car like a boss.

    • Nicknames this month include: Bear, Bear Bear

Construction paper! Crayons! GLITTER!!!!

Life lesson:

Elmer’s glue + glitter = FUN

I passed along my knowledge of all-things-glitter-and-glue to Adelyn for Valentine’s Day. Why? Because we made little Valentine’s Day cards for our families and friends! She is a huge fan of “cwafts”, particularly if we can use paint or glue, and this was the first time she’d gotten to play with “sparkles”. Let’s just say the girl was hooked. I mean, it’s glitter.

{{Can I get an ‘Amen’?}}

Believe it or not, she was super careful with the glitter. It’s like she knew she didn’t want to dump the whole container over and waste the precious pieces. And she was also very patient. She understood that we had to go through the following steps:

Step 1. Draw a shape or word on the Valentine in glue.
Step 2. Pour glitter onto glue.
Step 3. Tilt Valentine around so loose glitter sticks to glue.
Step 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 as necessary until glue is covered with glitter!

Seriously, look at this concentration.

She was so proud of her Valentine’s!
{{This one says “My Friend”, for her friend Hannah Clare.}}

She took her work very seriously.

Even Colton wanted in on the action, but alas, he’ll have to wait until next year.

We also made a little picture frame for Daddy for Valentine’s Day. It’s amazing what some red paint and a little glue and glitter can do to spruce up a $0.67 wooden frame.

More glitter!

The finished product (with some Valentine’s Day tulips we bought this weekend). Daddy liked it! :)

{{Aren’t the tulips lovely? So spring-y}}

Enjoy your Valentine’s Day, all!

The apples don’t fall far from the tree.

This morning we woke up to the sound of a drilling rig revving it’s engine. It could only mean one thing – an oil well must be getting an overhaul!

After scarfing down breakfast and bundling into our jackets and hats, we headed out to find the rig. It wasn’t hard to find.

When it comes to the oil field, Adelyn is a chip off the old block. {{Daddy’s the “old block”, just to be clear.}}

Teaching Colton about rigs.

“Are you listening?”

Something tells me that growing up in East Texas and having an oil man as his Daddy will keep Colton just as interested in the oil field as Addy.

Talk about a great way to start the day!
